XBMC Eden: Dolby True HD, DTS-HD and 24-bit audio finally supported

We waited for many years, without really believing too much in it. While XBMC Eden was announced as the first version of XBMC with native support for Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio/High Resolution, we had many springs to see that it was not the case. Not the case, until this past weekend…

That’s it, the XBMC developers have announced their new AE (Audio Engine) able to natively support Dolby True HD, DTS-HD but also 24-bit audio up to 384kHz. The new XBMC AE handles the encoding, decoding, transcoding, streaming and even resampling. Other small innovations are also present as full support for ReplayGain, or the optimized A/V synchronization. Other new features will be added gradually, as the appearance of some DSP, the DRC, an equalizer function and a low pass filter.
