VIA has unveiled the VAB-800, a Pico-ITX motherboard with the particularity of having a Freescale ARM Cortex-A8 iMX537 at 800 MHz (with two integrated GPU), instead of a conventional x86 CPU.
Despite its small size (100 x 72 mm), this Pico-ITX platform is rather complete. We thus find 1 GB DDR3 memory, up to 64GB of eMMC flash memory, two single-channel LVDS 24-bit ports, one SATA port, VGA and mini HDMI outputs, four USB 2.0 ports (two in the rear), a 10/100Mbps Ethernet controller, two COM ports, audio inputs and outputs, one SDIO connector and eight GPIO connectors.
The manufacturer claims that the high performance 1080p video playback is supported.
VIA adds that the VAB-800 is enhanced to operate in “hostile” environment, especially with temperatures between -20° C and 70° C in an ultra low TDP envelope of only 5W. The support will be provided during 7 years minimum. The price of this platform is unfortunately not known.
