Sony VPL-HW30AES 1080p 3D Projector Review
After TVs, it’s the turn of projectors to offer a 3D compatibility. Sony leads all other manufacturers by introducing the VPL-HW30. With an introductory price of $4000, this new kid is positioned between the VPL-HW20 and VPL-HW90.
The VPL-HW30AES is Sony’s addition to an ever-growing and competitive field of sub-$5,000 3D projectors. With an MSRP of $3,999, the VPL-HW30AES falls in the middle of this genre – a step up from the Epson Home Cinema 3010 and Optoma HD33 and a step down from the JVC DLA-X3 and Optoma HD8300. This 1080p projector uses SXRD technology, which is Sony’s version of LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon). In the specs department, it claims a 70,000:1 dynamic...

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 3010e 3D Projector Review
The floodgates have begun to open in the world of “entry-level” 3D front projectors. When I reviewed the JVC DLA-X3 back in July, the only other sub-$5,000 models were the Sharp XV-Z17000 and Sony VPL-HW30ES (reviews coming on both of those, by the way). Since then, Optoma, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, and Epson have all entered the fray. In fact, Optoma and Epson have already redefined...

Optoma HD8300 3D DLP Front Projector Review
Optoma is probably better known for affordability than outright performance. This is why projectors such as Optoma’s HD33 at $1,499 retail have been their bread and butter for years – surpassed only by their educational and business offerings. So it begs the question, what is a value-oriented brand like Optoma thinking by releasing a performance driven front projector such ...
