The Zotac ZBOX Nano AD13 XS goes to the AMD E2-1800 APU

Zotac has updated its Zbox Nano XS launched last year and which now bears the name of AD13. At the heart of change is mainly the E-450 APU that was replaced by the E2-1800 of the AMD Brazos 2.0 platform. As usual with the manufacturer, it has a Plus version that has a 64GB mSATA SSD and 2 GB of DDR3.

Zotac is updating its mini PC launched in April last year and which has reduced measurements: 106 x 106 x 37 mm. However, it will deal with NUC Intel now playing in the same category with almost a similar size (116.6 x 112 x 39 mm). The manufacturer proceeds to change the APU as he had done for its AD06. If the previous model was equipped with an E-450, the Zbox Nano XS AD13 works with the  AMD’s E2-1800. We thus find two cores at 1.7 GHz supported by a Radeon HD 7430.

As with the previous version, the manufacturer offers a USB dongle providing Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0 in this mini PC, even if we would have preferred a PCI Express Mini Card, as it is the most often the case. In addition, a Media Center type remote control comes in the bundle, as well as a VESA 75/100 plate, which allows you to install  the mini PC directly behind a monitor or TV. For connectivity, unfortunately, it is unchanged from the previous model and includes:

  • 2 USB 2.0 ports for charging tablets and smartphones
  • 2 USB 3.0 ports
  • 1 Combo USB 2.0 / eSATA port
  • 1 6-in-1 memory card reader (including SDXC)
  • 1 HDMI output
  • Two jacks (3.5mm headphone / mic) convertible in optical output (adapter included)

Barebone version is delivered naked as usual, but Zotac has a Plus version that features a 64 GB mSATA SSD and 2 GB DDR3 SO-DIMM (4 GB maximum). Note that the manufacturer has decided to drop the hard disk that had operated for the AD06. No operating system is included with this mini PC, but the brand indicates that Windows 7 or 8 will be fully supported.

For the moment, no price has been announced, nor a release date. However, the AD06 is proposed to just under € 240 in the Barebone version, this new AD13 version should be in the same range.
