Thanko released a new HDMI key running under Android 4.0… finally

A note to myself: BUY ONE! Ok, I may be a little biased with this but I truly believe that the HDMI sticks are a godsend! For those who have lived in a cave the past few months, a small reminder: a HDMI key is a small Android computer that takes the form of a KEY that can be connected to any TV or monitor via the HDMI port. With these keys you can turn your monitor, TV or display into a small Android computer that allows you to play games, surf the web and watch videos, all without needing a PC.

In short, any TV can become an HDMI connected TV for cheap.

Thanko yesterday announced its latest stick with Android Stick 4 SmartTV or ANDHDM40 which now runs under Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This HDMI key measures 98x42x13mm and weights 40g. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Cortex A8-Allwinner A10 CPU, with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of disk space and is compatible with virtually all files:

  • Videos: (HD / SD) MPG 1/2/4, WMV 7/8/9 (VC1), ASF, H264 / H 263, MP4, FLV, 3GPP, MOV, MKV, RM / RMVB, TS, M2TS, DIVX / XVID, aVI, DAT
  • Audio: OGG, M4A, MID, MP3, WAV, AMR, WMA, FLAC, RA, AAC
  • Pictures: BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF

The Android Stick 4 SmartTV also comes with WiFi, a USB Host port and is fully compatible with Google Play.

It costs 9000 Yen ($115).

But can it play 10bit H.264, also known as Hi10p?

If not, then a lot of my moeshit is sadly not compatible. 🙁
    I will have to re-encode.
