Sony announced yesterday its first TV capable of displaying 4K images, revealing a new range of innovations for a company that already knows all about television. The new XBR-84X900 model of 84″ is equipped with a 4K LCD panel (3840 × 2160), which provides an image with a resolution four times greater than Full HD and allows more immersive viewing experience without equal. The new XBR 4K TV will be available in Sony Stores and at some US dealers in the US later this year.
Thanks to the integrated upscaling technology, including the 4K X-Reality PRO picture engine, this new TV is designed to make every image sharp and clear in 4K resolution, regardless of the source. Users can now watch videos on the big screen of this XBR TV and see no degradation of image quality, although it is traditionally associated with the giant screens. The high resolution provides a 3D viewing experience far beyond the Full HD resolution. 3D glasses accompanying the TV are very light and allows users to enjoy 3D on a giant screen in the same way they would in a movie theater.
THe XBR 4K TV also offers full connectivity allowing users to control their viewing via a tablet or smartphone with the downloadable Media Remote application. The integrated WiFi allows access to movies, shows, online videos and music, via the following services provided by the Sony Entertainment Network such as Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited, Netflix, Pandora, Yahoo!, Broadcast Interactivity and nearly 50 other popular entertainment platforms on the internet.
