Popcorn Hour A-300: New Platinum Multimedia Generation

Syabas presented the new Popcorn Hour media player generation, initially the Popcorn Hour A300, which replaces the A210 (not C200). Powered by the new Sigma Designs SMP8647 chip, thus more power, but still no support AVC / MVC and therefore no 3D Blu-ray. At design level it is in the same style as the older generations …

Meanwhile the long awaited successor to the C-200, the C-300 should offer a color LCD on the front, Syabas presented this Platinum Popcorn Hour HD Media A-300. The Flash interface has been completely redesigned, more design should also be more fluid and responsive enjoying 20% more power provided by the Sigma Designs SMP8647 processor (800MHz).

The multimedia support will have a complete and efficient management with ISO Blu-ray, but note that the menus are not supported (BD-Lite) due to licensing reasons. In fact, the Sigma Designs SMP8647 has no Blu-ray and CSS license. In opposite, it offers support for the Gigabit, USB 3.0, HD audio bitstream (DTS-HD and TrueHD) and Flash among others…

Popcorn Hour A-300 will be available at the end of October (October 18, to be confirmed) with a target price of around $300.
