A new CPU cooler just made its appearance in the Phanteks catalog: the PH-TC90LS. This model was designed for users with a Thin Mini ITX motherboard. Indeed, its compact size allows it to take place in the most majority of cases even those with low height as some HTPC cases.
This cooler consists of a block of aluminum fins and three copper heat pipes. These are not visible, since they take place between the base (nickel plated) and copper fins. The measurements are 95 x 95 x 43 mm and weighs 273 grams on the scale (with fan).
The heatsink is surmounted by a “PWM” fan with a diameter of 92 mm. This model works in a range between 1,000 and 2,500 rpm. The manufacturer indicates a noise level between 19-26 dB (A), and an airflow from 11.53 to 28.67 CFM. The static pressure is between 0.21 and 1.34mm H2O. Note that the heat sink is also compatible with the fans with 80mm diameter. The fixing is carried out with four hooks and two metal clips.
In terms of compatibility, it can only take place on the sockets LGA 1155, 1156 and LGA 2011 of Intel. In addition, the “TDP” (Thermal Design Power) of the processor should not exceed 130W, which still allows to cool a Core i7 3960X. Unfortunately, AMD sockets are not in the game. The bundle includes various mounting accessories, a tube of thermal paste, fan and its attachments, as well as documentation.
The Phanteks PH-TC90LS is already available at most local retailers. Regarding the price, it is around $29.99, which is relatively affordable. It will be interesting to read the first reviews to know all about performance, and especially its noise, but it promises to achieve the HTPC market.
