Onkyo TX-NR818: 7.2 A/V Receiver

While waiting for the submission of high-end models, after the Onkyo TX-NR717 presented 2 days ago, today is the turn of the 7.2 THX Select2 Plus certified Onkyo TX-R818 AV receiver. However, this model marks the return of VHD1900 Vida HQV video processing, providing video processing and scaling of 1080p sources (Auto HQV & Stream clean), alongside the Marvell Qdeo which manages only the 4K upscaling.

What’s New

In terms of innovations, the TX-NR818 integrates the MHL function (Mobile High Definition Link), for connecting a compatible smartphone or touch pad with support for 1080p video and 7.1 multichannel. It is also possible to control the playback of the playlist of a MHL smartphone from the remote of the receiver. Another addition, with the InstaPrevue, which displays a thumbnail preview even before you switch on the source. A PiP should be more practical than the usual methods of selection of sources, which we are accustomed. Note also the addition of the Hybrid Standby Mode, very useful as it allows the passage of the HDMI signal to the TV, while the amp is in standby mode, while retaining the sound of the TV.

About services for streaming audio, the Onkyo TX-NR818 integrates MP3Tunes service, which offers the ability to store and listen to audio from the cloud, 2 GB is available at registration. AUPEO!, Spotify and Simfy are also accessible from the amp.

The Onkyo TX-NR818 amplifier is available for pre-order, the retail price of $1199.
