OCZ launches major Firmware Update for its SSD with SandForce SF-2281 controller

Important news for those who have an OCZ SSD unit with SandForce SF-2281 controller controller, because the company has released a new Firmware update as they solve all the problems experienced by users so far.

The company has confirmed the fact that its SSD units based on SandForce SF-2281 controller are affected by a series of problems of firmware (software) early in June, with problems such as BSOD, errors detection by the BIOS, random crashes in the system and flaws in RAID configurations.

Since the first reports, OCZ has been working with SandForce in order to solve these problems and has released several updates, the last of them is this, the version 2.13.

Firmware 2.13 is designed to be applied with OCZ SSD units intended for the consumer market based on controller SandForce SF – 2281, these include models: Vertex 3, Vertex 3 Max IOPS, Agility 3, Solid 3, RevoDrive 3 and RevoDrive 3 X 2. Along with this Firmware update, OCZ has also introduced a new version of its tool OCZ Toolbx, which will help to apply the Firmware.

OCZ warns that this update cannot be applied with the unit running the operating system, it is necessary to leave it as a secondary drive or use a Linux distro provided by themselves to do so (when the drive contains the system). This update does not remove information but OCZ recommends precautions and a backup is sugested. More instructions in the PDF attachment.
