New OCZ Petrol SATA 6.0Gbps SSD with Indilinx Everest Driver

OCZ has launched its new SSD Petrol, it’s second line of units based on Indilinx Everest controller, which bind to the previously released Octane SSDs family. OCZ with these new units target slightly below in terms of performance and of course in price compared to their SandForce controller-based Vertex units.

As Octane units, these new OCZ SSD come in 2.5″ form factor, SATA 6.0Gbps interface and incorporate NAND Flash with Ndurance technology, which increases the lifetime of the memory chips to nearly 2 times. They have a MTBF of 1.25 million hours and TRIM support, but the difference is that Petrol units incorporate NAND Flash 2xnm with MLC asynchronous mode (multi-level cell), as oposite to the Octane line that uses  synchronous MLC NAND mode, the latter being more efficient for data transfer. Another difference is the read/write speed that is lower in these units since they point to a lower segment.

The new family of drives from OCZ Petrol comes with 3 year warranty and 60GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities for about $113, $187, $396 and $803 respectively.
