New HDMI 2.0 Standard in 2012!

Remember, to enjoy the HD audio tracks, you had to go FROM the HDMI 1.2 to HDMI 1.3. Soon after, the introduction of the HDMI 1.4a was necessary to take advantage of 3D on a compatible TV … You thought you were at your sorrows? Apparently not …

The rumor of a new version of the HDMI 1.4b standard, had already appeared since the release of version 1.3, but by visiting the official website, a news announcement that the specifications of the HDMI standard 1.4b are finalized. No more information, access is limited, this space being available only to subscribers. Should we prepare for the arrival of a HDMI 1.4b? No, far from it …

After a very long search, we finally realized that the HDMI consortium during November had “more or less” abandoned the idea of a version for HDMI 1.4b, eventually focusing on a new version including the work already done on this version. But again it is the dead end, difficult to know more. So HDMI 1.5? Still not.

Less than a week, a working group has met in Los Angeles, and should also meet again on 20, 21 and 22 December in a still undefined date. The goal: to define at the end of the year and announce the future requirements of HDMI 2.0, as well as future features that will be attached next January 9th at CES 2012. But that’s not all, news never comes alone, the HDMI v2.0 would arrive much quicker than expected, by mid-2012! As it stands, we only know that backwards compatibility will be set, and that 2.0 version will include all the development work on version 1.4b, plus the addition of new features.

Atthis time, we do not know more, not before the 2012 CES to see what really is the transition to HDMI 2.0. The version number seems to indicate that this is the most important redesign of the standard since the HDMI 1.0, which could lead to a result of hardware changes … To be continued.
