Minix HD PC: A rich and inexpensive Mini PC

J & W marks it’s difference on the nettop market with its Minix HD mini PC. Proposed only for €130 ($170), it offers a well thought out configuration, admittedly modest power, but able to deal with many uses.

The Minix HD mini PC with a dual-core Atom D2700 processor clocked at 2.13 GHz supported 1 MB of L2 cache and Hyper-Threading (2 physical cores, four logical cores). The motherboard, in Mini-ITX format, embeds a NM10 chipset with two SO-DIMM DDR3 1066/800 memory slots memory slots (8 GB maximum), one PCIe 1x while support graphics is handled by a GMA 3650 HD (MPEG2, VC1, AVC and H.264). The highlights are the presence of two Broadcom 57788 Ethernet ports, a Realtek ALC662/661 6 channels audio chip and two USB 3.0 ports.

This all rather nice, has two PS2 ports, a VGA output, HDMI output, several USB 2.0 ports, four on the back and one forward on the side and three audio jacks (Line In, Line Out and Mic). This little world is gathered into a compact case with dimensions of 192 x 60 x 186 mm taking advantage of an external power supply. The noise will not be part of it due to it’s fanless cooling.

In short, we have a very interesting configuration because it can adapt multiple uses (HTPC, small server, light desktop pc…) while being inexpensive.
