Iomega TV with Boxee + Storage: Media player and NAS

Interested in the Boxee Box, but looking for something a little bit flatter? Not content to stop with the D-Link Boxee Box, Boxee has partnered with Iomega to deliver its media streaming software to a new network-attached storage device, the Iomega TV. The Iomega NAS bears a more traditional rectangular media player design than the square Boxee Box and comes in three flavors: diskless, 1TB and 2TB.

Iomega TV with Boxee kicks off pricing at $229 and runs $299 and $349 for the 1TB and 2TB models. While Iomega’s hardware is mostly similar to D-Link’s, there are a few differences between the two Boxee players.

The Boxee Box and Iomega TV with Boxee both run on the same Intel Atom CE4100 processor and have the same TV browser and Flash 10.1 support. Because the devices are so similar, Boxee will be able to release near-identical firmware for each. Iomega’s remote even features a backside keyboard, just like D-Link’s design.

The primary difference, of course, is that optional 2TB of storage. Unfortunately, the device doesn’t support user-added storage, so you’ll have to nix that idea of buying a HDD and installing it yourself. Whether you choose the diskless model for streaming or a storage-equipped flavor, plan on sticking with it. And if you’re stuck in the HD era, you may be pleased to know that Iomega TV with Boxee includes a composite video out port, unlike D-Link’s Boxee Box. The Iomega TV should be on sale later this quarter.
