Free Voice Control for Windows Media Center with Simonsays

amulet remote

If you were impressed by the Amulet voice-enabled remote for Windows Media Center (shown above), but weren’t too thrilled about the $259 price tag (recently reduced to $199), have a look at Simonsays (aka “Simon Says”). The free, open-source python script hosted at Google Code enables users to use a standalone microphone or webcam to capture voice commands and process them using Windows 7′s Voice Recognition SDK. Currently, Simonsays has a limited dictionary of commands, according to the developer. However, it should be good enough to handle most duties by saying things like: “Computer, Mute.” Install instructions can be found here.
