eMachines ER1402 nettop now shipping

eMachines ER1402 nettop

Just a few days ago, we learned that eMachines (an Acer subsidiary) introduced a new mini-desktop in New Zealand this weekcalled the eMachines ER1401.  We couldn’t find any mention of this new nettop here in the States, and here’s why – there’s another new eMachines nettop, the ER1402, and it’s already available for $299.99 from Amazon with free shipping.

The biggest difference between this nettop and others is that is shuns the usual Intel Atom processor  for a 1.7GHz AMD Athlon II Neo K125 CPU.  It’s a  single core CPU (the slowest in AMD’s new low power line of chips), but Acer says it should still offer better performance than most single core Atom processors.  There’s also NVIDIA GeForce 9200 graphics, which enable HD video playback through the VGA or HDMI outputs and the usual 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet, 4 USB ports, a flash card reader, SPDIF port, 2GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. The ER1402 runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

We haven’t figured the differences (if any) between the eMachines ER1401 and ER1402, but here are the specs on the ER1401 courtesy of the eMachines website.

  • AMD Athlon II Neo processor K325 (1.3GHz dual core)
  • Nvidia GeForce 9200 graphics
  • up to 4GB DDR3 RAM (two slots)
  • 500GB HDD (2.5″ 5400 RPM)
  • S/PDIF out, HD audio
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Gigabit LAN
  • 4x USB 2.0, audio jacks, RJ45, HDMI, VGA
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
