Dell Inspiron Zino HD 410 Review

Dell is at it again with a new mini PC aimed at Home Cinema fans, the Inspiron Zino HD 410.  It’s the same size as its predecessors but improves on a few points that prevented the original Zino HD from coming away from our lab with a perfect score of five stars.

When you take it out of the box, the Inspiron Zino HD 410 is a black, glossy unit, which is the perfect recipe for greasy fingerprints.  But if you pay an extra £19.99, you can choose a different colour case.

If you’re using it for office work, the noise level produced by the fan is low enough to be inaudible, but if you’re doing something more challenging, you can hear it turning faster.  The hard drive isn’t the quietest we’ve ever heard either.  We’re not sure if every Zino HD 410 will make as much noise as ours, but the one we tested certainly made a racket.

Pros

Compact

HDMI output for audio and video

Blu-ray player optional

SPDIF output

Cons

Wireless keyboard and mouse require USB connector

Loud overall

Entirely plastic finish

No Blu-ray finish in the basic version

Conclusion

Don’t choose the Dell Inspiron Zino HD 410 for your front room if all you need is a media player: a dedicated device will be cheaper and better-suited. If you need an extra computer for surfing the web or doing some office work though, it can be a great little addition to your desktop.

I recently purchased a Zino HD 410, and am quite pleased with it. I run XBMC and Plex on it. And mine is very quiet. Not sure where the noise complaints are coming from. Now, it does seem to generate some heat, but no more than my Sony receiver does …

This is a horrible review. Did you even get a 410? You say absolutely nothing beyond what you can gleam from Dell’s website.
