RAIDR Express, the PCI-E SSD by ASUS
Briefly introduced at CES, the ASUS RAIDR EXPRESS unfolds a little more on SweClockers. This new PCI-Express SSD takes the form of a PCI-Express card x2 Gen2 (or 1 GB/s in each direction) that integrates a PCI-Express to SATA bridge, two SandForce SF-2281 controller and a Toshiba NAND MLC 19nm.
At first, the 120 and 240 GB versions will be launched, with the performance to 765/775 MB/s (sequential read/write) for the first and 830/810 MB/s for the second. Reads and random writes are 100K IOPS, but note that it is not clear whether this performance is obtained with compressible or incompressible data.
Power consumption is high for an SSD as 7 watts at idle and 16 watts in operation,...
Foremay TC166 and SC199: two 2TB 2.5″ SSD
Last week, OWC announced the first 2TB SSD, but with a 3.5″ size. Today, the Foremay company make it better and announces two 2.5 inches modules totaling not less than 2 TB of storage based on MLC chips.
The brand is not stingy with information on these new models that use a SATA II or III according to our information and a SF-1222 controller, up to 250 MB/sec read and write in the TC166 and a SF-2281 for 500 MB/sec read and write in the SC199.
The price is not mentioned, and fortunately in our opinion.
CES2013: Western Digital showed its “Black” series hybrid drive (SSHD)
At the CES 2013, Western Digital has shown the hybrid drives units, with a thickness of only 5mm, with a demonstration of performance that places their units very close to a SSD in terms of performance.
Indeed, Western Digital has shown several units of 2.5″ form factor at their Blue and Black series, the latter combine traditional storage (magnetic), with a solid storage using Flash memory chips to form a hybrid drive or SSHD (Solid State Hard Drives).
Western Digital showed two 2.5″ units of its Black line, a 500GB and a 1TB capacity, combined with 24GB MLC Flash memory, although some units will come with 32GB, 24GB or 16GB of MLC flash memory, which depends on the requirements...
Mushkin Chronos Deluxe SSD: 960GB!!!
Mushkin recently talked about a new Chronos Deluxe SSD, totaling not less than 960GB of storage space, ideal to paste games. The brand does not give details about the bowels of the beast, although, historically, the Chronos are a SandForce based solution, probably in SF-2281 for this SATA III model.
Price not mentioned yet, but it should be released on February. To be continued.
Intel SSD 335: new design and capacities
Intel issued a PCN (Product Change Notification) concerning the Intel SSD 335. We learn two things, the first is the arrival, in the end of January, a new design for the SSD, as follows:
But the most interesting is the arrival of other capacities on the series with 20nm MLC NAND since Intel mentions the arrival of the 80 and 180 GB versions, with the respective codes products: SSDSC2CT080A4K5 and...
Mushkin announces Atlas 480GB mSATA SSD
Mushkin makes a breakthrough in capacity of the mSATA SSDs, especially for ultra compact devices, ultra thin and ultrabooks, with this unit that reaches 480GB capacity, surpassing the 256 GB maximum reaching these units until now.
The new Mushkin unit of the Atlas family is based on a LSI SandForce SF-2281 controller, SATA III 6.0 Gbps connection has among other features that can be seen in the following...
OCZ Vector: New SSD over 500 MB/sec
OCZ has just announced a new SSD, the Vector. A model that uses a SATA III interface and Barefoot 3 controller, which is actually made up of a ARM chip and an Aragon coprocessor. There is also the cache memory and MLC chips in 25 nm synchronous type.
The SSD will be available in 128, 256 and 512 GB, for a reading speed of 550 MB/s on all models and writing of 400 MB/s on the 128 GB and 530 MB/s...
Western Digital launches its Caviar Black 4TB
Western Digital has announced a new 4 TB model in its range, the WD Black 4TB. Like all models in the Black series, the engine of this hard drive runs at 7200 rpm.
This is not the first 4TB model, but this is the first consumer model running at that speed. With an advertised price of $339, the price per GB is quite high compared to other models in the range. The WD4001FAEX- its name – has...
