An entirely passive 650W 80Plus Platinum PSU by Enermax

An entirely passive 650W 80Plus Platinum PSU by Enermax
At the Cebit Enermax booth, it is possible to discover a completely fanless power supply. This is the first one of the manufacturer who embarks on a market where only a few references are present. With an output of 650 Watts anyway, this PSU  has the challenge of ensuring its cooling entirely passive. It is a prototype and its launch should take place in the third quarter of this year. To be fanless, it uses a chassis, which on the photo it appears to be made of aluminum. A long Metal Mesh grid occupies part of the top while the side improve the heating dissipation. The cable management is fully modular while the yield is high-end with the presence of 80Plus Platinum label. According to Guru,...

Chieftec GPS-500C: Fanless 500W Platinum PSU

Chieftec GPS-500C: Fanless 500W Platinum PSU
The democratization of 80Plus Platinum allows multiple manufacturers to provide  fanless power supplies, that is to say completely silent. Chieftec announces the GPS-500C capable of simply cooling itself with the airflow from the case. ATX 2.3 compatible, the GPS-500C is 80Plus Platinum certified. Obtaining the highest distinction assures maximum efficiency which minimizes heat loss and thus lower cooling requirements. On this point, the manufacture provides a fanless design which “block cap” is an imposing radiator to dissipate the excess heat. The cable management is semi-modular since the two beams dedicated to the feeding of the board are secured to the PSU. Its price should...

Seasonic SS-520FL review: a 520W passive PSU

Seasonic SS-520FL review: a 520W passive PSU
Our colleagues at TechPowerUp recently published a comprehensive test on a recent high-end PSU from Seasonic: the Platinum Series Fanless 520W. As its name suggests, it is a power supply of 520W with passive cooling, 80Plus Platinum certified. As a reminder, this standard requires a minimum of 89% of efficiency at full load and 90% above 20% of utilization, which should limit the heat, an important point for a fanless PSU. As always with Seasonic, the connectivity of this block is quite comprehensive and completely modular. Thus, we find two 6+2 pin PCI-E, five Molex and six S-ATA connectors. Finally, note that this power supply has a 7 years warranty, more than enough to see it coming. However,...

The semi-passive power supplies by Corsair

The semi-passive power supplies by Corsair
The famous manufacturer of memory reveals its second TX power supply series with three interesting models. The original but already known concept of semi-passive power supply, enters in the Corsair TX series. Three references will be equipped with this system to control the fan speed. In case of low load, the module cut ventilation to take advantage of passive cooling and restarts once the temperature...

Antec VP450F and VP550F: two 80Plus of 450W and 550W PSUs
Two new PSUs just made their appearance in the Antec’s catalog, the VP450F and the VP550F. Delivering a power of 450W and 550W, these two power supplies are placed in the entry level. They are only 80Plus certified, and have a non-modular cabling. As the references suggest, the VP450F and the VP550F come to succeed the VP450 and VP550P. They have a power of 450W (VP450F) and 550W (VP550F)...

Comparative: Eleven 350-450W cheap power suplies

Comparative: Eleven 350-450W cheap power suplies
Our colleagues from Anandtech just put online an article facing-off not less than 11 power supplies with this common feature of all: be rather entry-level models and offering power ratings from 350W to 450W. It includes, for example, the Corsair CX430 V2, or the Enermax 450W NaXN, the Be Quiet! System Power 350W and other references like Thermaltake, FSB, or even Rasurbo Rosewill and Sinan. Which...
