Building my HTPC – Do It Yourself

This the best DIY videos collection i had seen. This set shows how to build an HTPC from hardware parts, assembling  it, and tunning your media center software.

A must seen.

Part 1: The Parts

I finally decided to build my Home Theatre PC and decided I would show it off as well 🙂

Case: Zalman HD160XT Plus
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+
CPU: AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core Black Edition
Memory: 4GB – Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX 2 X 2GB DDR
Graphics: Saphire ATI Raedon HD4850 512MB HDCP HDMI PCI-E
HDD: 2x Seagate 750GB SATAII 7200RPM
PSU: Seasonic M12 700W
TV Tuner: Hauppauge WinTV HVR4000 Quad Mode TV Reciever
Sound Card: Asus Xonar Ultra Fidelity PCI Sound Card
Keyboard: Logitech DiNovo Edge Ultra Slim Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse

Part 2: The Build

So here I am building the HTPC. I spent a good half hour planning out the build so that I didn’t make mistakes or have to re-do any part.
I was pretty close except I had to pull the sound card and tuner out to plug the front panel FireWire header in.
I’m also a cable nut and hate cables spread out all over the PC so i did the best job I could without cable ties.
Turning the beast on was a worry, i seriously thought that it wouldn’t turn on, but it did!
Oh, and isn’t the Asus Xonar pretty!

Part 3: Inital Operation

So I have everything installed and got the basic functionality operating. The TV works fine, the EPG works.
Still loads of configuration changes to go!

Part 4: Finished

So I’ve got basically everything installed and configured how I want…and it works!!!
MediaPortal is a fantastic piece of software doing exactly what it is meant to do. All my shows are in the database with screenshots, descriptions etc.
The EPG is 100% functional
I still have to install my LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD combo drive and get the Harmony remote doing everything properly but otherwise, it all works!
